About Susan
West Virginia born and raised, now living in SW Ohio with my loving and supportive husband, I have four
energetic and imaginative kids, a elderly-but-feisty mom, and an attack Yorkie. We are a Christian family that have been dedicated homeschoolers since 1994. Our firstborn graduated in 2006, and he has gone on to serve in the military and start a life of his own.
I believe that home education is not simply an educational method, but can become a fulfilling and joyful lifestyle. We may have started out in an effort to ensure that our children received a quality education, but the more we read and discuss and share experiences, the more convinced I am that home education is a unique opportunity for families to create bonds of trust and friendship.
At Home&School is for the purposes of sharing my experiences, as well as helpful resources and information in an effort to assist parents who want to do a bit more than the 3 R’s with their children. I don’t consider myself to be a homeschool ‘expert’, and can only give what I’ve been given from other homeschoolers, and 20+ years of homeschooling my own.
I also believe that children should have the opportunity to receive a quality education, and our current public school system is in dire need of an upgrade – probably a complete overhaul. Education is an important part of our country’s future, so I occasionally offer my opinions about current events in education. Just because I homeschool doesn’t mean I don’t care about the state of education in our nation, or have nothing of value to offer.
The 2012-2013 school year has brought me many new challenges and opportunities. I am serving as Meetings VP for our local homeschool support group, PEACH. I joined the Schoolhouse Review Crew, receiving educational resources in exchange for publishing an honest assessment.
You can also find me at Shelf Discoveries where I reviews books to help parents find appropriate material for their kids, along with ideas for using real books in education.
